## - Featuring The Chalk-It Mafia (MC Kenny and The Red Dragon) on vocals, with Chris and Britt both on keyboards.

^^ - Featuring the Greyhounds - Anthony, Nick, and Andrew, on keys, drums, and guitar, respectively.

^^^ - The "Surrogate Band" bit.  This short gag featured a "Fake Spo", which came out for the encore to play the first minute of "Choking", before being cut off by the real Spo.

For this year's Halloween, every member of Olospo dressed as a character from "The Big Lebowski".  Chris was The Dude, Nick was Jesus Quintana, Britt was The Stranger, and Tom (with the best costume of all) was Walter Sobchak. There was a video screen showing various stuff throughout the show, including "Lebowski" scenes and Spo tour footage.  The show began with an eight minute video for "Bound" that Grant Dickerson and Darin Prejean created.  In typical Spo fashion, someone in the band tripped over the power strip for the video projector and brought the whole thing to a halt, right at the climactic moment.  It took a few songs to get the projector working again, but eventually everything got back on track.  For the "Chalk-It Mafia" songs, there were several people onstage contributing to the gangsta rap spectacle. It was possibly the most surreal moment in a show that was chalk full of them.

E: Bathtub Gin tease > Spindletop, Fearless**

# - The show started with the opening sound collage to "Dark Side of The Moon", played over the house speakers, and the Spo started playing right when "Speak to Me" becomes "Breathe".  Interestingly enough, it was mentioned that the theme was broken from the get-go, because "Speak to Me" was actually the first song. In response to that (if anyone actually cares), it can be noted that the show was bookended by Floyd songs, neither of which followed the theme. So there!  Also interesting: there are several "B" and "S" songs within the Spo repertoire that didn't get played, due to time constraints.

^ - This was only the second time that "Syntax" has been played without leading into "Grace".  The other time was on 9/12/01, when the Spo played an all-instrumental show.

** - with "That's the Way" interlude, during the middle section.

* - The "Cops" theme song, first (and probably last) time played - because the cops came.  Apparently there were lots of problems in Leadville that week with people complaining about the noise coming from Tracks.  There was even a front page news article describing the ongoing feud between the club owner and local whiners, but it was because of loud people hanging around outside the club, not loud music.  Sure enough, halfway through the first set, the cops crashed the party, and someone yelled out "play the one about the cops!"  And naturally, the Spo pulled off a note-perfect rendition.

** - This was a strange comedic moment in Spo history.  During the first break of Aseedafinque, Britt activated a preset on his new toy - a muzak version of "La Vida Loca".  And the guys actually danced along to it for about 10 seconds before returning to Aseedafinque.

II: The Analog Kid > Fazoul, Chewing on Glass > Doolin' Blue on Grass, The Big Event, Broken, The Song Remains the Same > Way Too Many Shots, Waiting for a Superman, Enter Sandman intro > Journeyman Butcher, What Is and What Should Never Be#, Under the Bus, Back Door Biscuit > Wiggum

III: Tonight I'm Gonna Rock You Tonight***, Booty Raider, Can't You Hear Me Knocking, Spindletop, William and Aaron, Moby Dick > Film at Eleven, Blackhearted > In 3's, The Gooch, Super Mario Brothers, Franks and Beans

* - Pink Floyd cover, first time played, returning the "Floyd Tag" once again to Circadian, who responded to our "Us and Them" with "Pigs (Three Different Ones)" in Chicago.

** - Circadian cover, first time played, but not the whole song.  During the "Buzz" jam, the band found its way into the reggae groove, then played and sang the chorus of "Dirty Foot" repeatedly before moving back into "Buzz".

# - Zeppelin Piss Break

*** - Spinal Tap cover, first time played, but abbreviated.  At the beginning of the third set, someone in the crowd yelled "Tonight I'm Gonna Rock You!" and the Spo responded with an impromptu, shortened version of the song.  David, Derek, and Nigel would be proud.

This show started at 11pm and went until 4am - nearly five hours of Spo, and the longest show to date.

==============================================

#172 - 3/28/03 The Matchouse, Twinsburg, OH

I: Slack, Four Flusher > Special Ed, Confusion > Aseedafinque > Mixed Bizness > Sunrise > Flapjacks, Meaty Oprah > Bitter Beer Face, Smackin' the Corn#

II: Are You Gonna Go My Way*, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Can You Hear Me Knocking > Working In The Coal Mine** > Knocking jam, Not The Same***, Stepping Out, St. Stephen tease > They Love Each Other, Moby Dick > Film at Eleven > Another Brick in the Wall jam > Film at Eleven, A Day In The Life^, Octopus Garden^, Tangerine^^, Going to California^^, Silcanturnitova, Long Distance Runaround > The Fish (Shindleria Praematurus), Ain't Wastin' Time No More

# - Smackin' the Corn ended with a "quiet jam" which built to an "anti-climax"...the song kept getting softer and quieter until the band came out of the jam and played the ending very softly.

* - Lenny Kravitz cover, first time played.  Featured guest drumming by "Todd" Siewert (the fifth Spo), and guest vocals by one of the bartenders at the Matchouse.

** - Allen Toussaint/Devo cover, first time played, but not the whole song - only the chorus was sung, over the "Knocking Jam".

*** - Ben Folds cover, first time played, by request.

^ - Beatles cover, first time played, by request.

^^ - Zeppelin Piss Break tunes, by request.  "Tangerine" was unfinished, but "Going to California" was performed in its entirety.

The entire second set of this show was a drunken request show, much like OM Trio's set at Cicero's the week before.  The show was under-attended (to put it mildly), so the band just had fun by playing any son the audience asked for.  The requests ranged from specific bands (Grateful Dead! The Big Wu! Allman Brothers! Ben Folds! Yes!) to specific songs (While My Guitar Gently Weeps! A Day In The Life! Tangerine! Going to California!) - and it actually worked, for the most part.  Some songs were not exactly tight, but many others sounded surprisingly good, considering that they had never been attempted before.  It was definitely a "you had to be there" kinda thing...

"Us and Them" was played in response to Circadian, who played "Speak to Me > Breathe > On the Run > Time" at the previous night's show in Milwaukee, as a tribue to the 30th anniversary of Dark Side of the Moon.

# - The Ocean was a Zeppelin Piss Break.

** - New Spo original, first time played.

Interesting Side Note: There was a weird cosmic coincidence that occurred with the new Flaming Lips cover.  While we were aware that OKC is the Lips  hometown, we were not aware that Lip leader Wayne Coyne lives just a few  blocks from the venue.  After being informed, we drove by and checked out his cool house after the show.  He still has his Christmas lights up.  Good times.

Flutter featured Britt on guitar and Chris on keys.

Side Note/Funny Tour Moment: During  "What's the Buzz", some hippie kid (completely out of his mind on acid or some other mind altering substance) was trying to have sex with one of the PA speakers.  He was thrusting himself all over the speaker and nearly pulled it on top of himself, which would have been bad, but quite funny.  He later ate Britt's sandwich without asking, and told the band that we have  "a lovely scrotum".  Hours later, and a couple miles away, we saw him having a shouting match and tossing an invisible football to an imaginary friend.  Good times.

All songs were performed instrumentally, because there were no mics.

This was a unique spur of the moment thing that happened after the Spo's gig was called off at the Last Concert Café in Houston.  Heavy rain had ruined any hopes of playing at the LCC, so the band decided to invite Plump (the other band on the bill that night) back to our friend Julie's house in Seabrook, about an hour away.  We ran into some fans outside the club and invited them to come to the house for an all night jam party.  After about an hour long jam between members of Plump and Olospo, and a brief set by The Unseasoned Jazz Special, Spo played an adlibbed 70 minute set.  The setlist included instrumental versions of songs that normally have vocals, and also the redemption of songs that had been butchered the night before.

The Big Event broke down after about 20 seconds, because the bass rig completely cut out.  After tinkering with it for nearly ten minutes, the band resumed the song and the rest of the set.

Unfortunately, this show was not recorded on DAT, but there is a videotape of it.

This was the first time Olospo played live.  The band had been together for about seven weeks at this point.  It was at this show that the band introduced the "Name the Band" contest, which ended up being more than just a joke.  Somehow, a rather large number of the people who were there (who were mostly friends and fans of Walter Mitty) wrote down "Olo Spo".  After some heated debate, this ended up being the band's name.  Several months later, it became clarified as a single word "Olospo".  So, there you have it.
